My hubby and I decided to watch a movie last night. We couldn't agree on anything until I saw that Netflix had the documentary "Forks Over Knives". Let me just say, this was extremely eye opening but because of a previous book I have read (and own) it was strangely familiar. Allow me to give you a brief synopsis of this documentary:
A scientist and a M.D. in a turn of events collaborated together and did research into how much dairy (including eggs) and meat the Western Civilization consumes. The numbers are astonishing! What was more jaw dropping is how much global warming comes from us Americans consuming as much meat and dairy that we do!!! It goes on to showcase some individuals who devoted their diets to a whole foods plant based diet. There was amazing healing of so many problems that these individuals suffered from such as migraines, Type 2 diabetes, heart issues, liver disease, numerous cancers, the list went on.
The documentary then went on to show how China is adopting the same thinking of the Westerners. It's amazing how many people here in the US as well as in China believe that we eat meat as a good source of protein and dairy for calcium. But when you break down what our earth has to offer, you'll find that all the calcium and protein you need is within the plants.
Now for the reason I found this documentary strangely familiar. It's because I read the above book several years ago. If you are looking to embark on a healthier lifestyle, and by "healthy" I don't mean counting calories and eating low fat or low carb etc... I'm talking about how the human body was meant to be fed. This book is an easy, straight forward read. It's also written by the scientist in Forks over Knives.
The M.D. in the documentary raised an amazing son by the name of Rip Esselstyn. Rip was a major competitor in the Triathlon world. In his mid 30's he decided to embark on a new route in life and found that becoming a fire fighter fit his mojo. After him and his fellow fire fighters hit up a local clinic to have blood work done all in the name of a good bet, several were taken back by how awful their results were. This is where Rip stepped in and changed the diet of Fire House #2 in Austin, TX.
What came of Rip changing the diet of his fellow fire fighters was the quick response and quick mental thinking as well as the fastest times going up 20 flights of stairs with 50lb's of equipment on them.
Dr. Esselstyn as well as Dr. Campbell do speaking engagements around the world so if you are looking to rid yourself of unnecessary medications and symptoms I highly recommend you watch or read the above and for once, take charge of your life.
I rated this documentary 5 stars on Netflix.
