If you are an avid fan of mine and follow me on FB, you'll remember I posted about being out of space on my blog. Tis true. So, for future reference, if you ever find that you can't upload a picture or video on your blog due to a red error message stating you have met your quota on space, listen closely....
1: Know that the higher the resolution of the picture you are uploading, the more space it occupies.
2: Low res pics (think of a smartphone or if your camera setting is set to a low pixilated image) and videos less than 15 minutes in length do not go towards your allotted amount of space (1024MB). So, you may have actually reached your allotted space limit but because everything you are uploading is of a crappier quality, you won't realize it.
3: Once you get this red message stating you are screwed, it's because Google wants you to pay them anywhere from $5-$256 a year for more space to rent.
Screw that! Here is what you need to do, as Google doesn't make it easy to know (you won't find this on their FAQ page, you'll have to hunt, but I have already done that step for you....) how you can reclaim your space back!
1: Know that ALLLL photos on your blog are kept in a Picasa album. If you ever deleted a photo off your blog on accident, no worries, it's actually still here, if you know how to get to it (again, Google doesn't want you to find your photos, they'd rather have your money). How you go about finding your album, well, that's tricky, but doable, if you know who to ask, again, I found such person, in another country. Use this link, http://www.blogging.robertosblogs.net/2011/04/deleting-images-hosted-in-picasa-web.html and click on HIS highlighted links to get to your blog photos in Picasa. If you try to go to Picasa yourself, Google will make you download the whole program which you actually don't have to do.
2: NOW, once all your photos download (be patient, they will appear, just takes a good couple of minutes) you can then select photos you wish to delete off your blog for good. This process can take up to 24 hours but you'll see that with every unnecessary pic you delete, you slowly get your space back:)
3: And lastly, don't stop uploading higher res pics to your blog, oh no, don't stop! Because, if you are like me, you blog to partly preserve family memories as scrapbooking is so 2003. You need to download a program called BLURB, it's free at blurb.com. You can easily import your entire blog, it is SO EASY!! Then, once your blog is imported, you can easily fish through and delete posts (such as this one) that aren't important to your family memories:) If you have shotty res photos, you won't get a good BLURB book:(
Who did I lose? Anyone? Questions?? Good. Happy Tuesday my little nuggets of happiness.
